The Kai Ken is a breed of dog native to the Kai region, Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan, where it is a national monument. It is a rare dog even in its native land and is one of the six native Japanese dog breeds protected by the Nihon Ken Hozonkai.

The Kai Ken, also known as the Tora Inu or Tiger Dog, is known for its brindle coat, which helps it blend into the forest environment. It has a strong hunting instinct and is highly intelligent, making it an excellent problem solver. This breed is protective of its family and tends to be reserved with strangers.
