The Neapolitan Mastiff or Mastino Napoletano is an Italian breed of large dog of mastiff type. It was recognised as a breed by the Ente Nazionale della Cinofilia Italiana in 1949, and accepted by the Fédération Cynologique Internationale in 1956.
The breed originated in the region around Naples, Italy, where it was traditionally used as a guard dog.
The Neapolitan Mastiff is known for its massive size and loose, wrinkled skin. It is a powerful dog often used for guarding due to its protective nature. It has a calm demeanor but can be quite protective of its family. The breed is also known for drooling due to its loose skin and jowls.
